A living funeral is for those people who might have thought that it was a shame that many people often attend funerals when they haven’t seen the person for many months or maybe years and at a normal funeral it’s too late as the person has died. A living funeral is very simply, an event that has similarities to a funeral or memorial ceremony but the ‘guest of honour’ is still alive to enjoy it.

Usually, the person themselves will be interested in having a living funeral – it’s not the sort of thing you do someone else as a surprise or otherwise. People of any age can have a living funeral, but they are usually held for people who have a terminal illness or know that they are close to death, but still able to enjoy the company of family and friends.

A living funeral can take almost any form but may include music, poetry, specially written pieces, speeches from friends, family and / or the ‘guest of honour’.

If you are reading this then you may have had a thought about your own living funeral or are helping to organise one for a friend or family member at their request.

Why not hold a truly unique funeral – one in which you get a proper opportunity to say goodbye to those you love most and to all of those who meant something to you in your life. Be that little bit different and have a ceremony that people won’t forget in a hurry. Have your funeral while you’re still alive!
